Mayim & GrokNation sponsored Worthy of Love’s January birthday party for homeless kids

On January 26, on a rooftop overlooking a stunningly-lit downtown Los Angeles skyline, hip-hop music pulsed and the air was filled with the laughter and applause of children, all of them guests of honor at a very special birthday…

Skiddy Cat

Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles has a mascot, Skiddy Cat!

With the help of Skiddy Cat, Union Rescue Mission, incredible volunteers, and you, our City’s homeless children won’t miss their Birthdays. Union Rescue Mission is the only mission in Skid Row that can accommodate children. The Mission serves children who have often experienced homelessness, hunger and trauma. Skiddy Cat knows how important it is to normalize their environment.

She feels that every child is worthy of love and no child should miss their Birthday.

About Worthy of Love

Worthy of Love has been throwing incredible monthly birthday celebrations for children experiencing homelessness in DTLA since January 2013. When we started our monthly birthday bash there were 15-20 kids (in the only shelter that allows children in Skid Row). Now there are over 100 children staying at the Union Rescue Mission. Our need for support is greater than ever.
We strive to bring hope to homeless children. We believe children deserve to be reminded of their value and potential. We believe by showing them they are worthy of love, they will be motivated to pursue their dreams.

Each and every month since January 2013, the Worthy of Love monthly birthday celebrations have allowed the deprived children living at the Union Rescue Mission a temporary reprieve from the stress associated with not having a place to call home. At these parties, we celebrate the birthday of any child born that month and all the other children and parents are also invited to attend. There are games, party favors and best of all, Skiddy Cat, the loving, cuddly Skid Row mascot visits every party to dole out hugs, high fives and dance moves. During these parties, the residents of the shelter step into a world filled with love, laughter, acceptance and possibility.

Our goal is to give them a night that they will never forget. You see their faces light up and smiles that warm your heart. They leave their worries at the door and bust a move on the dance floor! We couldn’t do this without the generosity and dedication of our donors and volunteers.

Thank you for supporting our mission to make these precious children feel worthy of love!
